International Programs
CEE has three established international programs. The first international collaboration is with the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT). The potential areas of collaboration include enrolling existing or potential UTT staff or students in existing M.S. or Ph.D. programs at Carnegie Mellon, collaborating in research projects funded by Trinidad and Tobago companies and government agencies, assisting in the development of degree programs, and having UTT's undergraduate students participate in a summer internship at Carnegie Mellon funded by UTT.
The second collaboration is a dual Ph.D. program with the Korean Advanced Institute for Science and Technology's (KAIST) Civil and Environmental Engineering department. The memorandum of understanding (MOU), signed by both CMU President Jared Cohon and KAIST President Suh Nam Pyo in October 2007, reflects a commitment of both universities to explore new research opportunities, as well as the joint education program, which enables Ph.D. candidates at Carnegie Mellon and KAIST to earn a degree at each institution.
The third collaboration is a dual Ph.D. program with the Middle East Technical University's (METU) Civil Engineering department. The memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed by both Provost and Senior Vice President Mark Kamlet and METU President Ural Akbulut in Feburary 2008. This collaboration will enable Ph.D. candidates to earn a degree at both CMU and METU. Exploration of new research opportunities will also occur as a result of the signed MOU.
