Alumni to Receive Awards at CEE Alumni Dinner

The CEE Distinguished Alumnus Award is intended to recognize CEE alumni who have one or more major achievements that have improved the work of professional engineers or have improved people's lives in some way. This year the award will be presented to Michael S. Ellegood, (B.S. CE 1960). Mr. Ellegood currently applies his extensive project management experience and expertise as a course instructor for PSMJ, a leading world-wide consulting organization that conducts more than 200 A/E/C educational seminars and conferences annually.

Mr. Ellegood recently retired from his position as the Director of Public Works, Transportation Director and County Engineer for Maricopa County, Arizona, the sixth largest county in the country. Prior to working for Maricopa County, he was a senior manager at Parsons Transportation Group and T.Y. Lin, where he managed major transportation projects including work for CalTrans, The City of Los Angeles, and its ports. His 44 years as a professional engineer include design and project management of major urban transportation projects including the major long-span, Krotz Springs Bridge, the automated toll system development for the San Joaquin Hills Toll Road in Southern California and the infrastructure development for the Port of Long Beach California.

In addition to his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Carnegie Mellon, Mr. Ellegood holds a Masters of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of New York, where he subsequently taught classes in military engineering. His distinguished tenure with the Armed Forces as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers included service in both Korea and Vietnam. He is the recipient of the Bronze Star for his service as a combat engineer in the latter.
